WoW Midnight Season 2 Catalyst & Crest Guide

Two systems decide how efficiently you gear in Season 2: the Catalyst (how you get your tier set) and crests (how you upgrade items). Both changed enough this patch to trip up returning players, so here's the short version.

The Catalyst change you need to know

In Season 2 the Catalyst now keeps the secondary stats, sockets, tertiary stats and effects of the item you convert — it no longer applies fixed tier-set stats. In practice that means: use the Catalyst on the piece whose stats you actually want, and don't expect to farm off-slot pieces (like belts or boots) with tier stats anymore — for those slots it's a transmog tool. Charges are limited, so treat each conversion as a real decision and prioritise completing your 4-set bonus early.

Crest management — don't waste them

Upgrades cost a flat number of crests per rank, and the weekly cap climbs each week on a catch-up curve, so crests bind hard at launch and loosen up mid-season. The most common mistakes:

• Upgrading a slot the raid will fill. If a tier token, weapon or trinket is likely to drop for that slot, wait — crests spent there are simply lost.
• Sitting on capped crests. Anything over the weekly cap is wasted. Spend down before reset if you're near it.
• Over-upgrading early pieces you'll replace within a week.

Rule of thumb: upgrade your weapon and trinkets first, then set pieces, then everything else.

The fastest way to feed the system

Crests and tier pieces come from the raid, Mythic+ and delves — the more you clear, the more you have to spend. If you're short on time, a boost front-loads that progress:

• Venomous Abyss raid boost — tier tokens and top crests.
• Mythic+ Keys boost — steady crests and Vault progress.
• All Mythic+ boosts and all raid boosts.
