Keystone Master (KSM) in WoW Midnight Season 2: Rating, Mount and Why You're Stuck

Keystone Master — KSM for short — is the achievement most Mythic+ players chase every season, because it is the one that hands you a mount you can only get while the season is live. In WoW Midnight Season 2 the requirement is unchanged in shape but the dungeon pool is new, and a lot of players are stalling in the 1700-1900 range. Here is exactly what KSM needs, what you get, and the honest reasons people get stuck.
What Keystone Master actually requires in Season 2
KSM is a rating achievement: you need 2000 Mythic+ rating across the Season 2 dungeon pool. Rating comes from timed runs, and each dungeon contributes its best tyrannical and fortified score. That last part is what catches people out — you cannot simply spam one dungeon. You need a spread of solid runs across every dungeon, on both affix weeks, to total 2000.
In practice, most players reach 2000 by timing every dungeon somewhere around the +8 to +10 range on both affixes, rather than by pushing one or two very high keys.
The reward — and the deadline that matters
KSM grants the Season 2 dungeon mount plus the Keystone Master title for the season. The critical detail: the mount is removed when the season ends. It does not come back, and it is not purchasable afterwards. Every season a wave of players misses it by a few hundred rating in the final weeks — that is the single most common regret we hear.
KSM, Hero, Legend and Myth — what each rating unlocks
- Keystone Master (KSM) — 2000 rating. The mount and the title. This is the goal for the majority of players.
- Keystone Hero (KSH) — 2500 rating. A prestige title for players comfortable in higher keys.
- Keystone Legend (KSL) — 3000+ rating. Serious pushing territory, well above the average raider.
- Keystone Myth — the top bracket, aimed at title-cutoff players.
Why most players get stuck short of 2000
It is rarely skill. The four reasons we see over and over:
- Depleting keys. One untimed run drops the key and costs you the week's momentum — and rating only counts timed runs.
- Only playing one affix week. Your score needs both tyrannical and fortified entries per dungeon. Playing only half of them caps your total well under 2000.
- The tank and healer shortage. The one nobody plans for. Mythic+ has a well-documented tank bottleneck — players routinely report waiting 30+ minutes just to find a tank, and that is before someone leaves at the second boss and you start over. Most players lose more time forming groups than actually running dungeons.
- Ignoring the low dungeons. Rating is a sum. One dungeon you avoid because you dislike it can be the 150 points you are missing.
The fastest realistic route to 2000
Run every dungeon on both affixes at a key level you can comfortably time, rather than gambling on high keys. Fill the missing halves first — the biggest jumps come from dungeons where you only have one affix score. And do it early: rating gets harder to farm late in the season as the player pool thins out.
